Established in 1979, Hot Dog Heaven began on East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, as a humble grab‑and‑go stand. Barry Star, alongside his parents Seymour and Roslyn, originally planned a pizza shop—but faced with stiff competition and high rent, they pivoted to Chicago‑style hot dogs. For just $400/month rent (vs. $1,200 for pizza), they transformed the spot into a city landmark

After Barry's recent retirement and a period of uncertainty, new owners Joe Barra and Mathew Abdol stepped in this January 2025 to revive and preserve the legacy. They kept the menu, décor, and faithful recipes intact, reaffirming, “It’s the same way it always was”
